Tannins Wine of the Week – Mavrodaphne – Red sweet wine- Greece

Tasting Notes:

Lovely aromas of raisins and dates. Rich, dried fruit flavours with good acidity that balances this sweet wine. Long finish with a rich fruit that lingers, an ideal wine to offer by the glass as an aperitif, a lovely dessert wine.

The grapes are harvested in August and sun-dried before pressing. Normal fermentation takes place and is arrested by the addition of a small quantity of grape spirit. This kills the yeast and thereby preserves the sugar content. The wine is then aged in oak barrels for a minimum of one year.

A must try with Tannins Assorted Fruit Tarts or Tannins Assorted Cream Puffs or Eclairs.  This wine carries a 15% discount at Tannins on Tuesday night, and 5% discount by the glass, and 10% discount by the bottle, all of this week at Tannins.  Best served chilled.
